Salt Therapy
What is Salt Therapy?
Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy (greek halo- means salt) or dry salt therapy. It has gotten its roots from Eastern Europe and throughout Russia down inside salt mines and caves, where the mines use to work. Civilians started providing health care down inside these mines because they noticed the workers were the healthiest due to the environment they worked in. Technology has improved and the Russians have developed a device called halogenerator to mimic the same treatment. An apparatus for producing dry salt aerosol for halotherapy that provides treatment for respiratory hygiene and skin conditions for humans and animals.
How does Salt Therapy work?
A machine (halogenerator), that intakes air and is comprised of a salt feeder and a grinder or blade cutting mechanism that transforms pure-grade sodium chloride into precise micron-sized salt particles and disperses the dry salt aerosol via a fan through an opening into an enclosed chamber or room.
Why is it so effective?
When the salt is dry it is super absorbent, when you breathe in the salt particles it is pulling out the mucous, allergens, and dust that you and I breathe in. It is an anti-inflammatory, for people who have constricted airway passages like asthma and COPD it helps open up the airway passages. Dry salt is also anti-bacterial, when you inhale this particle into your body or get it on your skin it is killing viruses. Salt Therapy has no side effects, and is safe for both adults and children.
What do I wear?
Wear whatever you are comfortable in, if you are coming straight from work or headed to work it is okay. There will be a little bit of salt residue on your clothing when you leave. The residue is completely safe and washes/ brushes off immediately. You are asked to be modest and mindful of others in session.
****We do not recommend electronics in the Tranquility Salt Room, salt is a corrosive and there are micro-particles of salt floating around that could get into the electronic devices and may cause damage. Not being attached to electronic devices is therapy so you can enjoy your entire session. Feel free to bring a book, crossword puzzles, or even sudoku. There may be other people in the large size room, please do not disturb anyone. You are free to talk to a familiar person but be mindful and respectful of the next person trying to relax. Failure to do so you will be asked to leave and will not be refunded of any funds. We are here to unwind.
****This is not a cure for anything, diagnosing is out of my scope of practice. This is a complimentary therapy that someone can use in addition to treatment by doctor or self treatment.
